UK Accelerates Electrification - Building 50,000 Charging Piles

With the global boom in electric vehicle production, several organizations expect that electric vehicles may replace fuel vehicles. Royal Dutch Shell recently announced plans to have 50,000 charging stations on the streets of the United Kingdom by 2025.

Royal Dutch Shell said that the company's Ubitricity will install 50,000 roadside charging posts by 2025. Currently, they operate about 3,600 charging posts in the UK. The move is in line with the UK government's previous environmental targets for 2050.

The UK government's "Green Industrial Revolution" plan, which was launched at the end of 2020, is most notable for the ban on gasoline and diesel-powered cars from 2030, a decade earlier than the government's previous plan. The country also plans to invest £1.3 billion to accelerate the construction of infrastructure such as charging piles.

According to the government's latest report, the U.K. will need between 280,000 and 480,000 public charging posts by 2030, compared with about 25,000 at present. To support the continued expansion of charging stations in the UK, Shell plans to help local governments raise funds.

British Transport Minister Rachel Maclean said that as electric vehicles become more widespread, it shows that people are beginning to gradually accept them. The prospects for on board charger are very good.

He also noted that the government is discussing with many companies how to continue to expand the audience for electric vehicles and lay infrastructure such as charging pads to ensure that the 2050 target is met.

Pioneers in the transformation of large oil and gas companies

Shell, one of the pioneers in the transformation of large oil and gas companies into new energy, has laid out and participated in the construction of new energy charging stations ahead of its peers. The company first announced in 2017 that it planned to build its first electric vehicle charging station.

At the same time, the company acquired some EV charging service companies to increase its technology reserve. For example, the company acquired electric vehicle charging service provider Ubitricity earlier this year.
