18kw Onboard battery charger for electric vehicles/Robert/golf cart

Onboard charger (OBC) are applications built into cars to recharge high-voltage batteries from AC grids while the vehicle is parked. Longer driving ranges of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV) are realized by increasing the battery capacities and energy efficiencies of electric components. The used battery voltage classes tend to become standardized at approximately 450 V with a trend towards higher voltages, as this supports faster charging times and enables lighter cabling within the vehicle.

Electric vehicles (EVs) are often considered a new thing, but some of the first cars built in the 19th century were electric. Since then, internal combustion engine (ICE) cars have exploded in popularity, and electric cars have been largely forgotten. Electric vehicles attracted attention during the oil crisis of the 1970s and when the California Air Resources Board (CARB) developed its zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) program in the 1990s, but they did not take hold.

Since then, the electric vehicle market has expanded steadily. From the perspective of charging methods, electric vehicles are mainly divided into two categories. The first are hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) and mild hybrid vehicles (MHEV), which use ICE, regenerative braking and energy recovery to charge their own batteries. The second category is plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEV), which are types that require "plug-in" charging. These vehicles require an on-board charger (OBC).
